| International Communications Group Introduces Next Generation Router |
|
International Communications Group, Inc. (ICG), the leading provider of next generation communications systems and solutions, has developed a new data router for airborne applications. The AeroRouter 800 is a compact line replaceable unit (LRU) that uses non-proprietary architecture and is designed to be compatible with virtually any communications system or peripheral business device. The router provides connectivity to all common data circuits. It has two internal 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi transceivers that can provide internal cabin service as well as external Gatelink wireless connections. In addition, the router offers the ICG NxtMail service providing global E-Mail to users with Wi-Fi capable Blackberries and iPhones and it can be used as a server with either the Microsoft or Linux operating systems. The server option includes the addition of mass storage solid-state devices and permits the loading of customer specific applications and functions.
“The AeroRouter 800 offers five circuits for connection of typical data devices such as Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs), client Personal Computers (PCs), multi-function machines or aircraft systems,” pointed out Armin Jabs, ICG’s Chief Operations Officer. “It also provides three uplink Wide Area Network (WAN) ports for use with the Swift Broadband (SBB) and Very Small Aperture Telecommunications (VSAT) satellite systems, as well as other regional Satcom or broadband systems. Similarly, the AeroRouter 800’s serial ports can support uplink messaging to Iridium systems and other transceivers. Its Arinc 429 circuits provide connections to aircraft systems for the purpose of data acquisition, file storage or transmissions or if required, monitoring aircraft altitude to automatically turn-off cabin Wi-Fi access below 10,000 feet, as well,” he continued.
“The AeroRouter 800 was designed to be universally compatible with all peripheral devices and transceivers, without the need to add peripheral interface devices or requirements for system change-out. ICG prides itself in producing flexible products that are scalable for any size airframe. Customers can have the confidence that what they’re putting on their airplanes will meet the industry’s highest standards for quality, reliability and performance,” Jabs concluded.
